Commando Presents: Cadman – 5 questions answered

Cadman

Containing over 190 pages of classic comic artwork,  the Commando team answer 5 questions about their latest graphic novel ‘Commando Presents: Cadman’

1. Can you tell us about ‘The Coward of the Fighting 43rd?

Lieutenant Gerald Cadman, ‘The Coward of the Fighting 43rd’, is a cowardly and dishonest officer fighting in the First World War.

Throughout the Great War and beyond, his one and only goal has been to earn as much glory as possible while keeping himself out of harm’s way.

Despite his yellow-bellied tricks and dodging of his duties, Cadman always seems to strike lucky and end up on top.

The only one who sees through his phoney heroism is his batman, Private Tom Smith – but who would believe the word of a lowly gamekeeper’s son against that of an officer and a gentleman?

2. What comic titles has the character appeared in to date?

Cadman first appeared in The Victor in February of 1973. The writer of this first story was uncredited, but it was drawn by legendary comics artist Mike Dorey, who continued to be the main artist behind Cadman’s exploits until The Victor ceased publication in 1992.

3. What can we expect from this new release?

This first volume of Cadman stories combines the first two rebooted issues that have appeared in Commando so far, alongside a selection of classic strips from the original Victor run.

That’s over 190 pages of classic Cadman comic artwork from some of DC Thomson’s most legendary titles!

4. Does Mike Dorey contribute?

But of course! Cadman wouldn’t be Cadman without Mike’s iconic artwork, so it only seemed fitting that he play a part in this landmark release.

The volume includes a wonderful foreword written by Dorey himself, in which he reflects on his years working on the character and his origins.

5. Are there any plans for a second volume?

That’s top secret, but keep your eyes peeled!
