Hauptmann Fritz Friedel hated the desert with its relentless sun and oceans of coarse sand. The German captain thought his career was over when he was assigned a post on the remotest part of the German line, but then he heard music echoing in the desert wasteland. Following the eerie melody, Friedel discovered a pair of Swiss cousins excavating ruins on the battlefields of North Africa.
